Pistachio

The tree produces seeds which are frequently consumed as food.

Pistacia vera frequently is confused with other species in the genus Pistacia That are also referred to as pistachio. These other species could be distinguished by their geographical distributions (in the wild) and their seeds, that are much smaller and have a soft shell.

As of 2017, Iran accounted for more than half of the world’s production of pistachios.

Pistachio is from late Middle English”pistace”, from Old French, superseded in the 16th century by types from Italian”pistacchio”, via Latin from Greek”pistakion”, from Middle Persian”pistak” (the New Persian version being”pista”).
